CALIFORNIA DREAMING

Mockumentary Comedy Written & Directed by Andrea Paone Italy (Tuscany)

A politically incorrect mockumentary set in Tuscany, in the seaside spot locals ironically call “La California”. Three men, equal parts hilarious and pathetic, keep trying to “make it”, while their manager uses them like tools. Each episode features a different guest, turning everyday small-town chaos into something dangerously funny.

Logline

Three overconfident locals chase relevance in a Tuscan “California”, while a ruthless manager exploits them and every episode brings a guest who makes things worse.

Series identity

Fast, observational, and embarrassingly real. The comedy comes from behavior, not punchlines: people who cannot read a room, yet insist on performing in it.

Project story

California Dreaming was built from a very Italian contradiction: places that sell the fantasy of “elsewhere” while remaining stubbornly themselves. “La California” is a stage, a myth, and a trap. Everyone wants a glow-up. Nobody wants the work. The series follows three friends who confuse confidence with competence and who keep failing upward, episode after episode. Their manager knows it and plays them like instruments, pushing them into situations that create content, scandal, and chaos. What starts as comedy becomes a portrait of modern masculinity, ambition, and small-town performance culture.

Format

Mockumentary, episodic. Guest-driven structure. Camera as an active witness.
